Egypt

The Anba Makar Church in the village of Atris El Giza in Egypt serves 250 families who do not have a fixed monthly income because they work irregularly and earn a daily wage that extends to 70 Egyptian pounds, equivalent to about 40 Swedish kronor.

The church assists the families by distributing food items during holidays and at the end of the month. It also helps with medicines and medical operations that the families cannot afford on their own.

The families have also not been able to afford to send their children to school. The children end up on the streets because they have nowhere else to go during the day. Instead of these children ending up on the streets, the church has wished to help them go to school but has not been able to afford both the essentials and schooling.

When OneHand learned about the difficult situation, it was decided to help the church so that the children could go to school and get a good start towards a brighter future.

So far, the Anba Makar Church and OneHand have helped 35 children to attend preschool and school for two years.

Egypt – Mission de Vie

Orphaned children in the New Life Home monastery, Mission de Vie, Antelias in Lebanon

In collaboration with Father Domadius, who is a priest at Anba Makar's church in the Atris area of El Giza, Egypt, OneHand supports 50 poor children to attend preschool. A project that will provide a better future for all these children.

The church has large premises which are now being converted into a preschool to be able to take care of the children who are between 1.5 and 6 years old. Some of the children are poor, have disabled parents, or parents who cannot read or write. Today, they spend their days on the street where they learn street language and bad behaviors. Therefore, this preschool is important for being able to give the children a better future.

  1. Receive 50 poor children so that they do not live on the street until they start school.
  2. Develop the children's skills so that they can manage in society.
  3. Develop the children's behaviors.
  4. Teach the children to take care of each other, respect the elderly, forgive and like each other.
  5. Teach the children Arabic and English. (in a playful form - simply letting them be children)
  6. Strengthen the children's personalities and teach them what rights they have.
